Did you see this story in USA Weekend? Reid Harris of Virginia’s James Madison University and Vance Vredenburg of San Francisco State are out to save the mountain yellow-legged frog (hear what they sound like) and croaking about the benefits of amphibians. They talk about their role in the food chain, and importance to medicine development. And there’s this intriguing excerpt: “Harris discovered a skin bacteria found on red-backed salamanders abundant in Virginia that may kill the (chytrid) fungus.” We’ll try to learn more about that.
